Kérkira the land of sun and friendship
It this wet and miserable weather is starting to get you down, and you’re dreading the prospect of those dark Winter nights, isn’t it time you thought seriously about your next holiday? Nothing lifts the spirits more than a week or two in the sun. Now package holidays can be good and can hit the spot, but for true relaxation, nothing beats a Villa holiday. You’re in total control and you set the pace: you can see the sights if you choose, or you can recline and soak up the sun. It’s up to you: after all, it’s your holiday. If a villa holiday is the right choice for you, then there’s really only one destination to head for and that’s Corfu, or Kérkira to give it its Greek name. It’s known as the friendly island for good reason: it’s the land of sun and friendship. A two week break at one of our two luxury villas in Corfu will definitely hit the spot, and you’ll return home feeling refreshed and re-invigorated. The only problem might be that you’d rather not come back.
But what makes Corfu such a great place to visit? Why is a holiday villa in Corfu the right choice for you? Well, the answer is partly the scenery and partly the climate. We could also add to add the warm and friendliness of the islanders. Corfu lives up to its reputation as the green island. Its seductive beauty has been attracting visitors for years, and has been a source of inspiration for generation after generation. It’s rumoured that Shakespeare took tales of the island as the setting for one of his masterpieces, the Tempest. Lawrence Durrell too, echoed this tribute by naming his book, Prospero’s Cell, after the island. Henry Miller really couldn’t get enough of the place, immersing himself in the culture and spirit of Corfu, and sitting for hours in the sun, “doing nothing and thinking of nothing.” He certainly seemed to have the right idea. If history interests you, then it’s believed that Corfu was Homer’s inspiration for the fabled kingdom of Phaeacia, where Odysseus was washed ashore and met the beautiful Nausicaa.
If it’s beauty you’re looking for, then Kérkira has this in abundance. Corfu has a justified reputation as the greenest Greek island. That’s hardly surprising when you consider its intrinsic natural appeal: with the scent of lemon and orange trees, its figs and cypresses, and above all, its 3 million olive trees, Corfu is a natural wonder and the jewel of the Ionian Islands. Yes, some people will claim that there has been too much development and that commercialism and tourism have spoiled its natural charm, particularly along the northeast coast, but Corfu remains an island where you can still get away from the crowds and relax in peace and quiet. There’s something for everyone, and the space to do it in. Thousands of tourists can’t be wrong, can they? They know that Corfu is the holiday destination of choice. The clever tourists, however, know that if you truly want to experience freedom and holiday at your own pace, then a luxury villa holiday in Corfu is the only way to do it.
