Kassiopi and the surrounding areas of Corfu’s North East coast

There are few more beautiful islands to visit than Corfu. If you’re looking to take a leisurely break in the sun, then a holiday Villa in Corfu is hard to beat. Whether you’re searching for total seclusion, hoping to sample typical Island village life or looking for the complete Greek experience, Corfu will definitely satisfy your needs. Our luxury villa accommodation at villas Yvonne and Julia, offers unparallelled views over the Mediterranean. Each of the villas are situated in a secluded, 3 acre site of lush olive groves on the north east coast of Corfu, in one of the most unspoilt areas on the island. Because of its temperate climate and light rainfall in the winter months, this particular region of Kékira is covered with wild flowers and beautiful shrubs throughout the year, unlike some of the other Greek Islands.

If you are particularly a fan of sunbathing, and like to get out and about, then the island can certainly offer you a wealth of destinations to visit, whether that’s a secluded cove or a busy, bustling city. Over the course of the next few articles we’ll look at some of the destinations you might like to pay a visit to, starting with the beautiful resort of Kassiopi and its surrounding villages. Kassiopi is set in a sheltered bay, and has a long illustrious history, dating all the way back to the Emperor Tiberius who had a villa here. Tourism has unfortunately taken its toll on the resort, and it has become developed and anglicised over the course of the last 20 years. Fortunately Kassiopi has been able to retain most of its charm despite this development. There are still pockets of old village life scattered here and there, and the ancient plane tree in the main square is still standing.

Kassiopi is justifiably famous for its cuisine and its seafood has an enviable reputation. There are numerous bars and restaurants dotted around the picturesque harbour, but if you’re looking for something extra special, then why not try dining at the Kassiopi Star or the Three Brothers restaurants? As far as nightlife goes, Kassiopi has this in abundance, but fortunately the bars and discos are very discrete: they certainly won’t spoil your holiday enjoyment in any way.

Kassiopi has a fabulous waterfront. Though people often bathe from the promontory below the fortress, around the promontory to the west, most of Kassiopi’s beaches are out of town. The closest, which is only 10 minutes walk away, is known as Imérolia: a sandy beach that is often very busy. Beyond this lies Avlídhi: this is much more secluded beach, reached from a rough track off the main road. Unfortunately the beach here is stony, but the spectacular views certainly compensate for this shortcoming. There are also numerous other footpaths and boat excursions that will give access to countless secluded coves.

The coast west of Kassiopi is barren, at least initially, but is one of the quietest stretches of mixed sand and shingle in Corfu. If you’re looking for total seclusion and peace and quiet, then this is the place to be. The payback for that peace and tranquillity is that there aren’t too many facilities available for the holiday maker. The road just beyond swoops steeply up to the summit of Mount Pandokrátor, past the tumbledown and overgrown village of Períthia, with its beehives and nut trees. If you fancy your chances of trekking to the mountain’s summit, then you might consider stopping for a drink at the one taverna in the area, the Capricorn Grill, before embarking on the lengthy climb.
